Raynold was pondering over his school days. How beautiful were the small hills, hillocks and the green trees! Almost every house had one or more ponds. There were many cannels and water basins in the village! He could also recall the painful memories of seeing children died of malnutrition and sometimes without treatment. Now when he comes to his village from the university, he sees- buildings and markets have been constructed cutting down the trees, and filling the ponds or water basins. It appears to him that free spaces for breathing is getting marginalized.
a. What do you mean by renewable energy?
b. Explain what is sensible consumption and production?
c. Where do the hills, rivers, cannels, bils (water basin) etc. stated in the stem belong to in a environment?
d. What according to you, should everyone do to breathe fresh as Raynold desires? Give your opinions in the light of the stem.
a. Sunlight is a renewable energy.
b. Ensuring the standard production of natural resources and consumer products, and the proportionate use of all resources is called sensible consumption and production. For sensible consumption and production, equality, between natural resources and production, and proper distribution have to be ensured. Only then sensible consumption and production will be ensured.
c. Stem-mentioned hills, cannels, bits (water basin) are included in natural fabric. The society we live in has two types of fabric. One is social fabric and another is natural fabric. The fabric which indicates the natural environment is called natural fabric. The main elements are soil, water, trees, aquatic plants and animals etc. In one word, all the natural elements constitute natural fabric. In the stem, we see Raynold’s house had small hills, mounds, green trees beside it and almost every house had several ponds, cannels, bils etc. All of these indicate the nature. Therefore, all of them are natural fabric. It is possible to bring about development, and balance in the society and environment by developing and preserving the natural fabric.
d. Everyone like the stem-mentioned Raynold should participate in the Sustainable Development Goals program to get a relieved life. To preserve the continuity of MDG, the United Nations declared the Sustainable Development Goals on 25 September, 2015. For this project, 17 goals, 169 objectives and 230 indicators have been fixed.

GOAL 17: Partnerships to achieve the Goal
Markets and buildings are constructed by cutting the trees besides Raynold’s house and filling up the ponds. Buildings, mills and factories are built by destroying the natural elements due to urbanization. Therefore, climate and weather changes are hampering our lives. Increase of global warming and natural disasters are making our lives miserable. If these continue in this way, one day the earth will become unsuitable for us to live. Hence, we must ensure planned forests, clean water bodies, open play grounds, parks etc. to be constructed. Not only in adopting, but also in implementing sustainable development goals (SDG 17), all of us must come forward. It is our duty to make our earth beautiful.
