Key Features Of The Situational Leadership Model

The Situational Leadership Model says that the style of leadership have to be matched to the level of readiness of the supporters. Like other contingency models of leadership, this one comprises three basic components:

  1.   A set of several potential leadership styles,
  2. A description of several alternative circumstances that leaders might meet, and
  3. Recommendations for which leadership styles are most effective in each circumstances.

The four leadership styles are

  1. Telling,
  2. Selling,
  3. Participating, and
  4. Delegating.

These four leadership styles implicate different combinations of task behavior and relationship behavior

A leader should consider the situation before determining which leadership style to practice. The situational contingency in this model is the degree of follower readiness.
